The Knox County Sheriff's Office Tracking Team found the body of a South Knox County man in a creek near his house late Monday afternoon. Seventy-four year old Robert Sedarat was reported missing earlier on Monday by a woman who rents a room in his house at 3104 Maloney Road. She had last seen Sedarat at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The Tracking Team, K-9s, and helicopter searched the area around Maloney Road for several hours before discovering the body. The Medical Examiner's Office is expected to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. KCSO Detectives say foul play is not a factor.
Three Knox County Sheriff’s Office Deputies involved in a shooting that resulted in the death of a West Knox County man on February 24, 2010 are back on patrol as of Monday, March 1, 2010.The three had been on administrative leave with pay after the shooting which occurred at 10633 Lone Star Way.According to the report, at 2:27 p.m. officers responded to a 911 call from Linda Kelly that her husband, 56 year old Robert Kelly, was suicidal and armed with a gun.As officers approached the home, Kelly came out of the house with a handgun in each hand and shot at officers.They returned fire and Kelly fell to the ground.Officers secured the suspect’s weapons, a 9mm handgun and a .45 caliber handgun, and he was transported by Rural Metro to U.T. Hospital where he died.
The officers involved in the incident are 39 year old J.D. Ferguson, who has been with KCSO since 2004; 41 year old James Page has been with the Sheriff’s Office since 1998 and was Officer of the Year in 2001; and 30 year old Joseph Crabtree, who joined KCSO in 2004.
The investigation is continuing as detectives with Major Crimes and the Office of Professional Standards await autopsy results.The number of rounds fired by the officers and by Kelly and the cause of death will be released when the investigation concludes.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who robbed an Oak Ridge Highway store on February 17, 2010.The white male entered the pharmacy at Walgreens around 9 p.m. at 7810 Oak Ridge Highway and demanded oxycodone and diazepam.The clerk handed over the pills after the suspect indicated that he had an explosive device, although none was seen.He left in a 1990 or 2000 gold or brown Buick.The suspect is described as 40-45 years old, chubby, around 6 feet tall and 220 pounds.He also had a pair of pantyhose wrapped around his head.Anyone with information is asked to call the KCSO at 215-2243.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a suspect who robbed the CVS Pharmacy at 4500 Maynardville Highway of oxycontin pills Thursday night.The incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. when a white male entered the store and gave a clerk a note that said he would kill her if she didn’t give him all the “oxys” and that it wasn’t a joke.She complied and a witness followed the suspect out and chased him until he lost sight of him.A caller to dispatch said that he saw a white male run from the store and get into a white and red Astro minivan.
The suspect is described as stocky, about 200 pounds, 5’10”, with brown hair.Anyone with information is asked to call the KCSO at 215-2243.
