The Knox County Sheriff’s Office intensified efforts to raise awareness about school bus safety and driving in school zones recently.Officers were placed on school buses and the buses followed by officers in unmarked vehicles.Officers alternated between mornings and afternoons. They cited 24 drivers for various infractions including passing buses with the stop sign out and drivers speeding in a school zone.
The crackdown came as a result from complaints from school bus drivers and parents.KCSO began the campaign December 10 through the 17th.Knox County Sheriff Jimmy “J.J.” Jones said the operation was highly successful and said officers will again start monitoring the buses and school zones after the first of the year.
The FBI and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, as part of the Safe Streets Task Force, are searching for a man who robbed a North Knox County bank late Monday afternoon. The suspect entered the First Tennessee Bank located at 2120 West Emory Road at 5:47 and demanded money from a teller. No weapon was shown. The man fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
Witnesses described the suspect as a white male in his late 30s to early 40s, between 5’7” and 5’8” tall with a slim build, and weighing approximately 150 pounds. The suspect was wearing a mask, gloves, dark pants, and a black or dark gray hoodie.

After a lengthy investigation involving local and Federal law enforcement, David Allen Scott pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court on December 3, 2009 to production of Child Pornography.
Scott, who is 48 years old, had been the target of an ongoing investigation involving the U.S. Postal Inspectors and Knoxville Police Department Internet Crimes against Children Unit. In a separate investigation involving a local child, in April of 2009, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at Scott’s house in Farragut. In excess of 2,000 images of child pornography was recovered on his computers. He was arrested on April 28, 2009 for possessing more than 100 child pornography images and was held in the Knox County jail on a $500,000 bond. The FBI continued the investigation, resulting in the US Attorney’s office filing charges of possession and production of child pornography.
Scott faces 15 to 30 years when he is sentenced in April of 2010. Scott remains in jail awaiting sentencing in April 2010. He faces 15 to 30 years.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation into the armed robbery of Petro at 722 North Watt Road from November 15, 2009. Detectives released these pictures of the suspect and ask that anyone with any information please call KCSO at 215-2243.
The white male described as 6 feet, thin, 170 pounds with brown hair, threatened the clerk with a black revolver and made her get on the floor while he took all the money from the cash register. No one was harmed and the suspect was seen leaving the scene on foot through the parking lot.
