An argument led to a woman cutting her estranged husband with a steak knife early Thursday morning.Thirty-two year old April Gillam was charged with aggravated assault after cutting 31 year old Robert Gillam on his shoulder at a house at 2418 Bowers Road.She fled the scene and was arrested a short time later on Straw Plains Pike.She is being held in the Knox County Jail on a $5,000 bond.The suspect told officers that the victim struck her with a door and that the knife jumped out of the drawer and cut the victim.She had no visible injuries.The victim refused medical treatment.The incident was reported shortly before 2 a.m. by the victim’s mother.
Detectives with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office have charged a 21 year old woman with aggravated child abuse.Sarah Julian is accused of putting her 14 month old daughter into a bathtub of scalding water Sunday night.The mother took the child to Children’s Hospital where she was treated for severe burns and was later flown to a burn unit in Augusta, Georgia Sunday night.The child suffered burns from the waist down.
Julian is in the Knox County Jail under a two hundred thousand dollar bond. Because of this incident, DCS is in the process of removing another daughter from the home.Julian lives at 7804 Stanley Road, lot 49 just off Clinton Highway in Powell.The incident was reported to KCSO Sunday at 7:15 p.m.
A joint operation between the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the arrest of two Knoxville men accused of soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor.Twenty-two year old Matthew R. Conard and 26 year old Robinson Lindsay were transported to Bradley County to face prosecution.Conard has a previous arrest in Knox County for sexual battery.
The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office initiated the undercover online investigation last year.
A fingerprint left on a piece of evidence led detectives with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office to the man who killed an East Knox County man in September.Thirty-nine year old Robert Wayne Hurst of Mascot is in the Knox County Detention Facility under a one million dollar bond charged with felony murder, first degree murder, and especially aggravated robbery.He is accused of shooting and stabbing to death 64 year old James Mullins on September 22, 2009 during a robbery of Mullins’ business on Rutledge Pike.
Hurst has been in jail since December 22, 2009 on an aggravated burglary charge.The KCSO Forensic Unit got a hit on Hurst’s fingerprint on some evidence collected and took the case to a grand jury which indicted Hurst on Wednesday.“If it weren’t for the great work from the Forensic Unit, this case would have been much harder to solve,” said Sheriff Jimmy “J.J.” Jones.The fingerprint was taken from a bloody glove at the scene.
The investigation is continuing as detectives believe another suspect may have been involved in the murder.Sheriff Jones said Mullins put up a fierce struggle and called this a vicious murder.
Both Sheriff Jones and Detective Matt Sexton praised the Mullins family for their help in the case.Sexton, who is the lead detective in the case, said the family helped provide several leads and were very supportive of the investigators.
Hurst has a criminal history dating back to 1989 which includes public order crimes, driving without a license, aggravated assault, theft, and failure to appear.
