Monday, 14 April 2008

Detectives with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man and woman for child abuse and neglect Friday afternoon. UPDATED INFORMATION:  OFFICERS WERE CALLED TO BAKERTOWN APARTMENTS for a welfare check on two children.  They found an eighteen month old boy and a two and half year old girl locked in a bare room with a wires attached to the door knob to prevent it from being opened.  The children’s mother, 22 year old Linsie Kohls and the father, 23 year old Lee Stiles were charged with child abuse and neglect of children under the age of 6.  They were released from the Knox County Jail after each posted a ten thousand dollar bond.

Neighbors said they often heard the children beat on the walls and cry at night.  They also said they never saw them outside.  Kohls told officers that the last time she had checked on the children was the night before.  The only food where the children were found was a bottle with curdled milk.

The Department of Children’s Services removed the children Friday and placed them in the care of their maternal grandmother.  Today Juvenile Court placed them in state custody.
