Joint Agency News Conference To Kick Off Police Week PDF Print E-mail

The heads of all the law enforcement agencies in the Knoxville area will gather Friday, May 2, 2007 outside the Civic Coliseum on the Plaza to kick-off Police Week.  The Mayors of Knoxville and Knox County will be reading proclamations in support of law enforcement and ribbons will be placed on cars from each agency.

The centerpiece of Police Week, May 11-17, is the Annual Knoxville-Knox County Peace Officers’ Memorial Service which will be May 13th, 10:00 a.m. at the Amphitheater in the World’s Fair Park.   The men and women who died during the previous year will be memorialized in a special ceremony.  The keynote speaker will be TBI Director Mark Gwyn.  Participating agencies are the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the Knoxville Police Department, the University of Tennessee Police Department, the TVA Police, the FBI and the TBI.    The memorial service is presented through the support of the Fraternal Order of Police Volunteer Lodge No. 2.

The week of May 11th has been designated National Police Week and May 13th is National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day.
