Officer of the Month Named for August
Tuesday, 11 September 2007
Sheriff Jimmy “J.J.” Jones is pleased to announce that the Command
Staff of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office has selected Officer Chad
Coleman as Officer of the Month for August, 2007.
On August 24th, 2007, Officer Coleman was off-duty at the Woodlands West Apartments swimming pool. He observed an older man with a video camera taping a 7 year old girl for an extended period of time. Officer Coleman initiated a conversation with the parents of the young girl, and they indicated that they did not know the man, but had noticed him arriving and leaving the pool at the same time they did for several days in a row, and even observed him with the video camera. Officer Coleman then spoke with the man, and allowed the officer to view his recordings. The contents of the disc were found to be of several young girls, and inappropriate in nature. He confiscated the disc, and advised the Major Crimes Division and the Career Criminal Unit of the situation. Following an investigation, the suspect was charged with Aggravated Stalking of the 7 year old child.
“Due to Officer Coleman’s excellent police skills, he was able to stop a sexual predator from possibly harming a young child,” said Sheriff Jones. “I commend him on a job well done.”
