Homeowner Shoots Burglary Suspect Print E-mail
Monday, 12 November 2007
A South Knox County man shot a burglary suspect as he and another suspect broke into his home shortly before midnight Sunday.

Sixty-three year old Horace Garland of 1320 Chestnut Street shot 21 year old Jeremy Johnson after he tried to kick in a door and then broke a window entering into the house.  He was shot in the neck.  Johnson yelled for his step-brother, 26 year old Timothy Lee Sellers, who then entered the house through the window and fired his gun at Garland.  No one was injured as Sellers dragged Johnson back to their car.  He dropped Johnson off at U.T. Hospital where he is in stable condition and expected to be released soon.   Knoxville Police Department officers took Sellers into custody a short time later after stopping his car on Scottish Pike.

Both suspects confessed to the break-in and are charged with aggravated burglary and attempted aggravated robbery.  Their bond is $55,000.  Both have criminal histories.  On Friday, Sellers was stopped by KPD officers and charged with possession of a gun.  The suspects live at 1710 Sunrise Street in Knoxville.

KCSO detectives say no charges will be placed against Garland because he was acting in self-defense.

Mug shots of the suspects are not available at this time.
