Third generation Officer Andrew Todd Wilson with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office died early Saturday morning in a tragic one-vehicle accident on Asheville Highway near Governor John Sevier Highway.
It occurred just before 3:45 a.m. while he was off-duty, and Wilson was taken to The University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
Twenty-one year old Wilson began his career with the KCSO in 2005 as a Commissary Assistant, and was promoted to Correctional Officer in September of 2007. He was the son of Assistant Chief Deputy Roger Wilson, and the grandson of retired Captain Bill Wilson. Andy, as he was known around the department, consistently earned good evaluations by his supervisors, referring to his cooperative and loyal nature, and his eagerness to follow “department rules and regulations while performing assignments.”
He is remembered by colleagues as an energetic and dependable employee and a good friend that always greeted people with a smile. He was an enthusiastic member of the KCSO Softball Team, bringing with him his years of experience at Carter High School, and many local area softball teams. He will be missed both professionally and personally by everyone at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
“This young man is a fine example of what any agency would desire from their employees. He was kind, respectful, considerate and professional. He will be sadly missed by the family of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office,” Chief Deputy Tom Spangler said of Officer Wilson.
